When is help with reading or learning disabilities necessary?

Some children struggle with reading or fall behind in their reading development, even with extra practice at school. They may read slowly, make frequent mistakes, or find it difficult to understand what they’re reading.

Signs that may indicate reading or learning difficulties:

  • Slow reading

  • Difficulty with spelling or remembering words

  • Trouble naming numbers, letters, or sounds

  • Little enjoyment of reading or avoidance of reading

  • Often doesn’t understand what has been read

When reading difficulties begin to emerge, it’s important to offer support early. Timely intervention can prevent further delays and help maintain a child’s confidence.

Please note: If an official dyslexia diagnosis has been made, speech therapy for reading and spelling is no longer covered by health insurance. In such cases, support is often already provided through school or a dyslexia specialist.

Not sure whether your child is experiencing a reading or learning problem? An intake or assessment can offer clarity.
