Online Speech Therapy and OMFT

When is OMFT necessary?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMFT) focuses on the balance and coordination of the muscles in and around the mouth. Some children (or adults), for example, primarily breathe through their mouth, swallow with their tongue between their teeth, or maintain an open mouth posture. These patterns can affect speech, dental development, swallowing habits, and even posture.

Signs that may indicate atypical oral behavior:
-
Tongue pushing forward during swallowing
-
Tongue positioned between or against the teeth while speaking
-
Frequently sitting or sleeping with an open mouth
-
Mouth breathing instead of nasal breathing
-
Lisping or unclear speech
-
Difficulties with eating or swallowing
-
Jaw complaints or misalignment of the teeth
These patterns often develop at a young age and can persist if not recognized and treated. OMFT helps train the oral muscles to function properly, supporting healthy oral habits.
If you’re unsure about your child’s oral or swallowing habits, an OMFT assessment can provide clarity. Together, we’ll explore what’s needed to restore balance in the oral area. See the contact form.
