How do you recognize language problems in your child?
Language difficulties aren’t always immediately visible, but they can affect how a child expresses themselves, communicates with others, and understands information. Some children start talking later, while others do speak but are not easily understood or struggle to put their thoughts and feelings into words.
Possible signs of language difficulties include:
- Your child doesn’t fully understand what is being said
- Difficulty finding words or using a limited vocabulary
- Sentences are short, unclear, or grammatically incorrect
- Instructions are often not followed properly
- Your child struggles with storytelling, retelling, or building a narrative
- Communication differs from that of peers
Language difficulties can also impact academic skills such as reading and writing. Sometimes, they only become noticeable once a child starts school.
